So,what does this guide book bring you?

  • The top stores in Akihabara chosen by tourists
  • A guide to the most visited shops by foreigners in the district.
These shops were hand picked by over 200 tourists in the early summer of 2008.

    From the Producer:

    Hello!  I’m Tom, Toshimichi Nozoe,

the producer of this guide book “The Best Shops of Akihabara”.  Thank you for having interested in this guide book.  If you make a purchase, I can guarantee that you’ll enjoy!  Well, let me share a story about how I started publishing this guide book.

    “Meeting Otaku Foreign Co-workers.”

This was the major reason of how I got an idea of publishing English Akihabara guide book.  One day, my non-Japanese co-worker (Japanese Anime Freak!) was complaining about how difficult for him as non-Japanese to getting around Akihabara where he believed as sacred place of Otaku.  He often wasted his time by just searching for shop after shops.  When I heard this, I knew for sure that this Akihabara guide book will be the first ever to be published in English and definitely help non-Japanese tourists and residents who wants to explore Akihabara.  Even more, I thought about showing off to my children that “I“ published THE FIRST English Akihabara guide book.  So I called up my friends for help and made it possible to publish.

    “Getting to know Otaku”

First of all, I’m not so called “Otaku” person.  I didn’t had interest in Anime, Cosplay, Figurines, Maid Café and more…and what’s even surprising, I went to Akihabara in 10 years to do some research for making this guide book.  It was tough for me to take surveys and interviews in English to total strangers in Akihabara but while seeing many foreigners wondering around and getting lost in the city, hearing and understanding how they’re so passionate about Otaku world, I became confident about publishing this guide book.

    “6 Months”

It took us “Team Tom”, 4 of us having ZERO experience in publishing, only 6 months to publish this guide book.  We have interviewed and took surveys from over 200 foreign nationals visiting streets of Akihabara and negotiated more than 30 retail shops and corporations for publication.  With my team’s great effort, after the launch of our website, this guide book has received great attention from one Akihabara lovers to Medias and well-known travel agencies.

Again, thank you very much for having interest in “The Best Shops of Akihabara” and I hope this guide book will become one of your communication tool among us Japanese or non-Japanese friends and bring you the best time in Akihabara.

Do you want to waste your time while traveling?

I'm really glad we picked this guide book up.

    Randall and Holly Garcia

My wife and I decided to take a trip to Akihabara on our visit here to Japan. We didn't know much about the area and noticed there wasn't really a "definite" tour guide book for the area. We picked up this book and it helped us our whole tour. The places of interest section really helped us plan and make most of our visit to Akihabara. I'm really glad we picked this book up. The city is big and you could easily get lost without a guide. I would recommend this book to anyone visiting the area!

    Extremely helpful.

    SIMPSON J.R.

Thanks to the efforts of The Original Maps and associates the tour guide provided for Akihabara was extremely helpful in seeing all the beautiful sites and enjoying all the entertaining things that Akihabara has to offer, without the stress of spending all my time finding my way around town!!

The descriptions of the places were spot on.

    Elaine Nghiem

I thought to concept of the book was cool. the drawings and story kept it interesting. people who don't really know where they're going can really benefit from guide books like this one. the descriptions of the places we were able to visit were pretty spot on. it was nice to have while we were there though. we never would have been able to find some of the places we did.

    Hi, TOM-san!

The guidebook is really fun to read!

    1. How did you find "The Best Shops Of Akihabara"?

Searching google while trying to find an Akihabara shopping guide.

There used to be a lot of anime shopping guides,

but your manga-format looks really fresh!

    2. Would you recommend "The Best Shops Of Akihabara" to others?

       Yes, I would

    Good luck!

    Toshimichi-san,

Suminasen for taking a few days to respond to your email.?

So far I have enjoyed "The Best Shops of Akihabara."?

I'm planning a trip to Japan next year and visiting Akihabara is definitely on my to do list.?

When I saw the guide on alafista.com.

I thought it would be a good resource for planning my visit.?

All of my first impressions of the book have been positive.?

The book layout is quite easy to understand and follow.?

The descriptions of stores and restaurants are very concise giving just

    the right amount of information.?

Graphically the book is very engaging starting off with the short manga,

and then continuing through the rest of the guide.?

Overall, I would not change anything about the guide and would recommend it to others.?

Thanks, and keep up the good work.

    Andrew

    Konnichiwa Nozoe-san,

I'll just answer on the points mentioned in your email? :)

How did you find "The Best Shops Of Akihabara"?

    - I stumbled upon your website through another,kotaku.com.

If you have your own web site or blog,

would you be able to advert "The Best Shops Of Akihabara"?

    - I don't have a website as of now. But should I start one,

    I wouldn't mind advertising your website. :)

Actually, I've been to Akihabara once in 2007

but I didn't have much time to go around...

I'll probably be going back to Japan for a holiday late 2009

so your guide will come in handy for me when I get there again.

Once again, good work on your book

and I hope you'll be able to update your customers on a regular basis via newsletters

    through email.

Perhaps you might be able to organize tours (paid of course,

after all you guys are running a business) for foreigners/customers

    if they ever visit Akihabara.

    Cheers!

    Alfred, Singapore.

    Hi TOM :)
    ----Questionnaire--------
1)How did you find "The Best Shops Of Akihabara"?

I found the guide via the article at Kotaku.com

2)Would you recommend "The Best Shops Of Akihabara" to others?

I'd recommend the guide to Akiba first timers or people

who have visited the place several times before without guidance :)

3)If you have your own web site or blog, would you be able to advert

    "The Best Shops Of Akihabara"?

I have a blog and I could advertise it by writing an article about it :)

Please E-mail us your opinion and/or demand if there is any.

I've visited Akiba a few times and scoured all the shops,

but the guide still showed me a lot of new things.

Since it's been about a year since I visited, even then a lot has changed.

    For example,

I didn't even know about all the restaurants and things in the Akihabara UDX building!

It would be nice to see an even more expanded guide with more details.

It's very good "as is" though,

so I'd like to also thank you and the team for translating it to English.

I actually have a 'fan page' on Facebook for AKIHABARA.

If you search for "Akihabara" on facebook and click on the "Pages" tab,

    it should show up.

I posted a link to the guide at that fan page :)

As I am going to Japan the first two weeks of this December,

I look forward to checking out some of the shops

I didn't know existed until I read this guide. Thank you so much :)

    Sincerely,

    James Wong

1)How did you find "The Best Shops Of Akihabara"?

Browsing an english Otaku info/updates/curiosity webpage.

Unfortunately, I didn't remember exactly what it was...

    Gomen!?

2)Would you recommend "The Best Shops Of Akihabara" to others?

    Yes of course!

I showed it to some of my comrades who will spend 2 weeks in Japan next spring,

and they also appreciated a lot the guide!

Thank you for such a nifty, useful and "otaku" guide! ^_^

    Bye,

    Gianluca
